What to Expect After Migration
A guide for customers on what to expect after email migration to a new mail server
What to Expect After Migration
This guide explains what happens after your email has been migrated to a new mail server.
New Mail Server
Your email has moved to a new server with a clean IP address. This means:
- Better deliverability than before
- Emails that previously bounced should now go through
- Your email address stays the same
Outgoing Email Queue
To protect our server's reputation, outgoing emails are rate-limited:
- Max 50 emails/hour to any single domain (e.g., gmail.com)
- Max 500 emails/hour total from your domain
If you send a large batch, emails will be queued and sent gradually - they're not lost, just paced out. This prevents your emails from being flagged as spam.
Outlook Duplicate Folders
After migration, Outlook may show duplicate folders. This happens because Outlook sees the new server as a "new" mailbox.
To fix:
- Close Outlook completely
- Go to Control Panel → Mail → Email Accounts
- Remove your email account
- Re-add the account with these settings:
- Server: Your mail server hostname (e.g., mail.yourdomain.com)
- Username: Your full email address
- Security: SSL/TLS
- Let Outlook resync fully
Accessing Your Email
Use an email client such as:
- Microsoft Outlook (desktop or mobile)
- Apple Mail
- Thunderbird
- Mobile phone mail app
Server Settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Incoming (IMAP) | mail.yourdomain.com, port 993, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing (SMTP) | mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, SSL/TLS |
| Username | Your full email address |
| Password | Your email password |
Common Questions
Why are some of my sent emails delayed?
Due to rate limiting, large batches of emails are queued and sent gradually over time. This protects the server's IP reputation and ensures better long-term deliverability.
Why do I see duplicate folders in Outlook?
This is normal after migration. Follow the steps above to remove and re-add your account, which will resolve the duplicate folders.
Can I access webmail?
The mail server does not include a webmail interface. You'll need to use an email client like Outlook, Thunderbird, or your phone's mail app.
My emails used to bounce - will they still bounce?
The new server has a clean IP address with good reputation. Emails that previously bounced due to IP reputation issues should now be delivered successfully.
